Beaujolais Chateau des Jacques (Jadot) 2009 Moulin-A-Vent Clos de RochegresOne of the highlights of the CSW company party last January was a magnum of 1985 Chateau des Jacques Moulin-A-Vent that we had acquired in a purchased cellar. The wine was quite lovely, only slightly fading but still possessing distinctive fruit and the secondary aromas of mature Burgundy. We have similar hopes for the 2009 Clos de Rochgres as the Jadot team seems determined to make a wine worthy of long aging, receiving, as David Schildknecht points out "an essentially Burgundian vinification, including gentle pump-overs, (and) aging for up to a year in largely new barriques." The wine has just arrived in New York and will need some time to settle down, but for those who enjoy mature Beaujolais this should be an interesting experience for drinking over the next ten to twenty years. Coquelet 2009 Chiroubles Lovely aromas of plum and cherry with hints of blackberry and violet. The palate is fairly lush but balanced by good acidity giving the wine a refreshing lightness. Lovely now, it should drink well for another three or four years. red | 15 in stock | Natural | $18.99 |

Terres Dorees (Jean-Paul Brun) 2009 Morgon This is one of my favorite Beaujolais' of the vintage thus far. The thing that strikes me about this wine is the balance between voluptuously ripe red fruits, beef-y terroir expression and a fresh tightly woven structure. Gros, Anne 2008 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Le Grand MaupertuisAnne Gros makes some of the finest wines in all of Burgundy and her Clos Vougeot is one of her best. The vines were planted in 1905. She is one of the only growers to list the part of the Clos where her vines are situated. That's because her vines are in a truly Grand Cru section of the Clos, "Le Grand Maupertuis", which is located just below "Les Grands-Echezeaux" which actually is in the climat of Echezeaux. Gros, Anne 2008 Echezeaux Grand Cru Echezeaux is the latest addition to Domaine Anne Gros. The vines were rented to the Gros Frere et Soeur Domaine but they reverted to Anne in 2007. The vineyard is located in Les Loachausses, next to the Echezeaux du Dessus of the Jayer-Gilles domaine. The vines were planted in 1990. Anne Gros uses no weedkillers or pesticides but has not converted to purely organic because she does not like to spray a lot of copper sulphate and sulphur on the young vines early in the season. red | 5 in stock | $127.99 |
