Boislauzon (Mas de Boislauzon) 2007 Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages Since we're talking about Chateauneuf-du-Papes, how about a great Cotes-du-Rhone, made from 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre. Deep red fruit liqueur and spice aromas which follow through on the well-structured palate. Drinks well now but will improve for a few years as it shows a bit more tannin than other 2007's. Highly recommended for lovers of old-fashioned Cote-du-Rhones...(From importer Alain Junguenet) red | 6 in stock | $14.99 |

Bosquet des Papes 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante le Merle Vieilles VigneFrom 80 to 90 year-old vines, 80% Grenache, 10% syrah, 10% Mourvedre in the sectors of Mont Redon, Gardiole and Brusquieres. Aged in large and small barrels, none new, and vat. "This is profound, very inset wine, but its black fruits are fleshy, still young and abundant. It finishes roundly, and is well juiced throughout. Power is apparent on the aftertaste – but not overdone. Decant this now. Ideally, drink this from spring 2010... It has muscular potential still, and the length is good." So says our friend John Livingstone-Learmonth in Drinkrhone.com - in other words a terrific old-fashioned Chateauneuf du Pape that is approaching maturity, and at a very reasonable price! red | 1 in stock | $46.99 |
| |
Bosquet des Papes 2000 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee GrenacheThe Cuvee Grenache (re-named A la Gloire de Mon Grand Pere in 2001) was particularly successful in this vintage. Made from 98% grenache from very old vines. Very deep red/black fruit and spice aromas with a hint of musk, needs two to three hours to open up. A serious wine, classic old-school Chateauneuf that is just reaching maturity, it will drink well for another 10 years at least and is a fabulous value at this price. A big wine, but balanced (13.5 % Alc) with gorgeous Grenache fruit - well worth a try! red | 10 in stock | $36.99 |

Bosquet des Papes 2007 Chateauneuf-du-Pape TraditionThe 2007 Tradition is a bit more forward than usual showing ripe black and red fruits with spice, herb and gamey notes. A lovely young Chateauneuf for current drinking, it has enough structure to develop over the next 8 to 10 years. red | 1 in stock | $40.99 |

Font Sarade 2007 Vacqueyras A very beautiful Vacqueyras, made from 50% Grenache, 45% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre, with complex ripe blackberry and cherry aromas, hints of syrah fat and gamey notes. Earthy full bodied palate with very good length, it should age well but is soft enough to drink fabulously now. A real, naturally made Rhone wine that is better than most modern Chateauneuf-du-Papes, and much less expensive...Highly recommended. red | 46 in stock | $22.99 |

Gonon 2007 Saint-Joseph Rouge (From vines in Tournon, Mauves and St.-Jean-de-Muzols including a two and one-half hectare parcel of old vines from Raymond Trollat.) Sensational, pure red and black fruit aromas float far above the glass, darker fruits, plum, violets, and peppery spices on the palate. Not as dense or structured as the 2006, but the fruit is more aromatic, softer and more forward. A voluptuous yet light-on-it's-feet Saint-Joseph to drink over the next 6 to 8 years, with great happiness. (John Livingstone-Learmonth, the foremost writer on the Northern Rhone, puts the Gonons in his STGT group - Soil to Glass Transfer, along with Clape, Chave, Balthazar, Barge and a few others...) This is a sensational value - a profound and delicious wine! red | 5 in stock | Natural | $29.99 |

Gonon 2008 Saint-Joseph Les Oliviers Blanc From a great site in Saint-Joseph, Les Oliviers, comes this magnificent Rhone white, a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne. Aromas of spiced apple and pear, lemon oil, almonds, a hay field on a hot summer's day; on the palate, wet stones, glycerin, thyme, straw, fabulous weight and length balanced by good acidity. If you don't think you like Rhone whites, think again, this wine is superb! DL

Gonon 2008 Vin de Pays de l'Ardeche Les Iles Feray (From young vines in Saint-Joseph and older vines on the plateau in Ardeche) Smoky, citrusy strawberry and blueberry fruit, soft and lush on the palate, clean finish with good acidity. Albert Dervieux-Thaize told me many years ago that a good Cote-Rotie should smell "like the gut of a warm hare" and there's some of that in here too. A yummy Syrah at a great price... (We've just received another shipment from the Gonons, and since the dollar has held at around 1.4 Euros, we've lowered the price from $16.99 to $14.99, making this an even greater value - 20 cases are available as of July 15th) red | 15 in stock | Natural | $16.99 |

Monier, Jean-Pierre 2007 Saint-Joseph DomaineJean-Pierre Monier follows the writings of Maria Thun, who adapted Steiners Biodynamic prinicipals to vineyard work. He farms 4 hectares of Syrah on granite and clay vineyards at high elevation in the hills above St. Desirat. Yields are normally around 25 hl/ha. He is a quiet, intelligent man who obviously takes great pride in his work. Our visit to his small cellar last February was a great pleasure and this "regular" cuvee of Saint-Joseph is a great pleasure also. Lovely red and black fruit aromas with hints of citrus, mint and game, the palate is medium bodied, elegant and balanced with good acidity. A fresh, lively and delicious wine that will drink beautifully over the next five or six years... red | 5 in stock | BioDynamic | $28.99 |

Monpertuis 2006 Vin de Pays du Gard La Ramière CounoiseCounoise, a grape used for blending in Chateauneuf-du-Pape is the star in this lovely Vin de Pays. The aromas are surprisingly deep and intiguing - ripe cherry and red currant with floral notes. The palate is medium-bodied and balanced with a clean if not super-long finish. This great value is very food friendly - serve a little bit cool... DL red | 73 in stock | $11.99 |

Monpertuis 2007 Chateauneuf-du-Pape ClassiquePaul Jeune of Domaine Monpertuis uses at least 75% Grenache in his cuvee classique, which gives the wine a wealth of juicy mixed berry fruit on the nose and palate. The remainder of the cepage is Mourvedre, Syrah, and Cinsault. The old vines at Monpertuis (between 60 and 110 years!) impart depth and great concentration to the wines. The objective with the cuvee classique is to make a Chateauneuf that can benefit from some time in the cellar but that has approachable tannins and can be enjoyed young as well. The wine is very skillfully balanced; its well-integrated and relatively moderate alcohol coming in at 14% and melding quite compellingly with the other flavors and textures of the wines. A rare treat! -MSB red | 41 in stock | $39.99 |
