A few years ago we discovered some bottles of Scotch whisky that made their way over to Italy in the 1970s, and subsequently into the vaults at Chambers Street Wines. We originally kept these bottles stashed away, thinking we could potentially do a dinner or tasting of these whiskies, but the years passed by, and we finally decided to release them. A highlight are some pre- and just-post-war bottlings of Macallan, Linkwood and Strathisla, along with some other interesting finds.
Due to the condition of the labels, and the lower fills of some of the bottles, we've decided to price these at hitherto unheard-of rates. All the whiskies look in great shape though, with the liquid having clarity, and we are confident they will provide an incredibly interesting drinking perspective, and a rare window into the past. As with all spirits offers, we cannot ship out of state, and these whiskies are available for in-store pickup, delivery in New York City and shipping within the state.
Due to shortages, for a few years after the war, Macallan was buying peated malted barley for their whisky production. Details on this are pretty vague, and we haven't found too many records of which bottlings are peated, but this vintage fits the general timeframe, and could possibly be a rare peated Macallan.
A special limited bottling for the Italian wine and spirits merchant Armando Giovinetti.
