Les Fouques 2012 Cotes de Provence La Londe

A  beautiful rosé from Les Fouques in Hyères, certified organic and biodynamic for more than twenty years. Pale copper/onion skin color, very subtle earthy peach, citrus, red fruit and spice aromas. Light-bodied but with great length, the palate is a complex blend of citrusy red fruits, earth and spices that finishes with lingering mineral flavors. This will deepen over the next 6 to 12 months and is delicious now. Subtle enough for oysters mignonette, great with grilled fish, even roast chicken. Highly recommended. This will be lovely for Thanksgiving — subtle but with enough flavor and density to complement all the traditional dishes. Also think of the suberb Hauvette Rosé "Petra," the full-flavored deep-colored Ilarria Rosé from Irouleguy and the earthy and delicilus Domaine Guion Rosé from Bourgueil. DL

Ferme Saint-Martin 2012 Cotes du Ventoux Rosé d'Entrevon

A lovely rosé of Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault grown in the Ventoux. Pretty red fruit aromas, light red-currant fruit on the palate with good length. With aeration this really gets serious, with cherry fruit that is deep and long. A pure and delicious food-friendly wine, with minimal sulfur. Did we say it's a great value? Re-tasted in April of 2014, the wine has deepened and is drinking beautifully, like sipping ripe red-currants, still with good balance and acidity — it's a fabulous value!

Tour du Bon 2012 Bandol Rosé

Tour du Bon is one of the top estates in Bandol, working organically in the vineyard and fermenting with wild yeasts. Their beautiful rosé is made from Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvedre and Clairette. Lovely aromas of red currant, cherry and raspberry with citrus and herbal notes. The palate is round and expressive, but backed by good acidity. Quite long with lingering ripeness and minerality. Serve with grilled tuna or chicken or enjoy by itself and think of the Mediterranean....

La Courtade 2012 Cotes de Provence Alycastre Rose

La Courtade, an organic estate on the Ile de Porquerolles near Hyeres, makes this delicious rosé from Grenache, Mourvedre and Tibouren — a local grape from Provence that adds an intiquing spicy character to the fruit. Part direct press, part saigné, with a long, slow fermentation with wild yeasts. Lovely aromas of peach, white fruits, blood orange with a hint of spice. Round, soft palate, really pretty and light but with distinctive fruit and a good finish. Great value...

Ferme Saint-Martin 2011 Côtes du Rhône Blanc

Guy and Thomas Julien make a small quantity of fascinating and delicious white Cotes du Rhône on their organic estate in Beaumes-de-Venise. "Le Blanc" is made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne, and has intriguing herbal, citrus and honeyed aromas, the palate is complex with citrus, white fruits and herbs, principally anise, with good acidity and length. This is really delicious — those of you not accustomed to buying Cotes-du-Rhône whites should give this lovely wine a try! DL

Traginer 2010 Collioure Blanc

An outstanding and unusual white made by Jean-François Deu at the organic estate, Domaine du Traginer (Mule-driver) in Banyuls and Collioure. Made from Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Malvasia grown on low-yielding vines, on steep slopes above the Mediterranean. Subtle aromas of stone, white fruits, lime flower, brown spice and resin, lifted by a slight oxidative character. The palate is dense and very mineral with pear and dried herbs, very long, fresh and stony. Serve with a full-flavored fish dish, strong cheeses. Really superb, and a close-out price. DL

Gilbert 2012 Menetou-Salon Blanc

This rich and almost unctuous Sauvignon Blanc comes from biodynamically farmed grape vines very close to the more famous appellation of Sancerre in the eastern Loire Valley. A far cry from the crisp and facile Sancerres that have given the appellation and the grape their reputations, this wine offers complex aromas of lemon thyme and lemon balm, a delicious melding of citrus and herbal aromas, and the faintest hint of smoke. Fairly robust in alcohol, this bottle should not be served freezing cold as the layered citrus pith and mineral notes of the palate and finish are more expressive if the wine is not so cold... -msb

Pillot, Jean-Marc 2010 Bourgogne Les Grands Champs

This Bourgogne Blanc coming from vines close to Chassagne Montrachet shows the broad, full-bodied character of its elder sibling: Chassagne. Élevage is done in barrel and there's regular lees-stirring, meaning the wine offers the rich, fleshy texture imparted by lees and wood but with little oaky aroma. There's an underlying earthiness to the wine that shines through in spite of its open, generous nature, as well as an appealing minerally spine. With aromas of lemon zest and lemon curd, there's a creaminess to the wine that finds balance in its acidity, but don't mistake it for a crisp, summer white. It's a serious Bourgogne Blanc that will complement richer fare. -msb

Pillot 2010 Bourgogne Les Grandes Terres

We loved this wine as a generous and delicious example of 2010 red Burgundy. High-toned and full of ripe, tangy cherry fruit on the nose, the wine maintains all the earthiness we require of red Burgundy on both the nose and the palate, which shows dark, brambly, berry fruit. More known for their white wines than their reds, Pillot is located in the Cote de Beaune and the vines that go into this wine are from south of Chassagne Montrachet. Typically Pillot uses between 10% and 30% new wood in the cellar. The wines are aged for a minimum of a year in barrel before being racked into tank to settle. Lovely in both its expression of earth and fruit, this wine is an excellent value from a superb recent vintage in Burgundy. -msb

Ferme Saint-Martin 2011 Beaumes-de-Venise Terres Jaunes

From parcels of clay/limestone, rich in iron, on hillsides surrounded by woods and hedges, 75% Grenache, 25% Syrah. Aromas of ripe cherry and strawberry with a bit of chocolate and spice, the palate is supple and deep with berry fruit and a bit of pepper. Powerful but fresh and long, serve cool with grilled chicken, burgers and pork. Like all the Ferme Saint-Martin wines, it's from organic grapes and bottled with minimal SO2, and it's a sensational value!

Ferme Saint-Martin 2010 Beaumes-de-Venise Costancia

A great Beaumes-de-Venise from Guy and Thomas Julien at La Ferme Saint-Martin. The estate has been working with organic methods for many years, with natural fermentations and minimal use of sulfur. The Costancia 2010 is from old vines of Grenache and Syrah grown at 1,800 ft in Suzette, on limestone/clay soils. At this altitude the Syrah has better freshness and acidity than in other parts of the southern Rhône. Aged in an old foudre. Lovely ripe blackberry/black cherry chocolate-y aromas, the palate is very deep and round with black fruits and berry liqueur, good acidity and length. A big wine that's well balanced that will drink fabulously now with grilled foods, slightly chilled. Or cellar 6 to 10 years.  Highly recommended and compares favorably to Gigondas at twice the price...

Traginer 2009 Collioure Rouge Vieille Foudre

Equal parts Grenache, Carignan, Mourvedre and Syrah from the steep schist terraces of Banyuls-sur-Mer, this is a pure and concentrated expression of this dramatic coastal stretch of the Roussillon. Cool aromas of purple florals and animal musk mingle with soft figgy fruit, dark cherry, and clove; the rich, round palate has more spicy Syrah and brambly Mourvedre notes than most blends from this region. Tart blackberries, broad bing cherry, bitter plum, fresh ginger, and supple earth combine with a strong tannic frame and long, dry, mineral finish. Complex, pleasureable, and an impressive balance of force with finesse. Pairs beautifully with lamb burgers, grilled raddichio, and red wine vinaigrettes. AR

The Traginer Banyuls Rimage (Vin Doux Naturel) at 17% alcohol is an insanely delicious wine as apéritif or with deserts of chocolate or fruit. Lovely aromas of prune, tea, coffee and black fruits, the palate is ripe and rich with deep pruney fruit, cocoa and spice. A lovely balanced and elegant Banyuls at a close-out price from this great organic estate. DL

Rimbert 2012 Vin de France Cousin Oscar

Welcome Cousin Oscar -- the perfect summer red wine! Made from Jean-Marie Rimbert's young vine Cinsault, this juice weighs in at 11.5% alcohol and is idea for chilling down and drinking essentially as you would a Rosé. (Well maybe a few degrees warmer...) The wine has juicy, dark fruits, dusty and irony aromatics as is typical of Rimbert's wines from Saint-Chinian, and very light tannins. Charming and absolutely idea for your next picnic or barbeque. -msb

Diebolt Vallois NV Champagne Brut Prestige Blanc de Blancs

This edition of Diebolt Cuvée Prestige is 30% 2009 and 70% 2010, vinified in barrel. The fruit comes from Cramant, Chouilly, and Mesnil. Upon first opening, the wine is creamy-textured, lemony and almost lemon curd-y. When the bottle had been open for several hours it truly begins to sing. The dosage recedes to the background and the wine’s chalkiness, which shows most on the palate, really shines through. This is a fantastic effort, an age-worthy wine that also drinks just beautifully now; it's a Champagne that is both classy and powerful. -msb

Lassaigne, Jacques NV Champagne Brut La Colline Inspiree 1.5

After being the first shop in our area to carry 750s of this brilliant bottling from Lassaigne, we finally (years later) have the magnums! From vines that are all over 45 years old, the wine comes from three parcels in Montgueux and is partially fermented in barrel. The name means "inspired hill" and was taken from a poem. There's more masculine character and structure to this wine than there is to Le Cotet, broad mid-palate weight, a hint of smoke and spice, a firm spine, and good potential to age. The ripeness and intensity of the fruit match the oak used in the élèvage. A great wine... and we promise it tastes different out of magnum!  -msb
