Taste Great Jura Wines With Stephane Tissot, Thursday April 10th at Racines NY!

Share

We're happy to announce that the dynamic Stephane Tissot of Domaine Andre and Mireille Tissot in the Jura will be joining us for a festive tasting this Thursday, April 10th at 7:30. We'll taste the full range of Stephane's wines while enjoying a superb light supper and we'll get a sneak preview of the soon-to-be-opened Racines NY!

Monsieur Tissot, who grew up on the estate, has been the driving force behind the dramatic resurgence of Jura wines over the last 20 years. André and Mireille, Stéphane’s parents, started the domaine in 1962 - Stéphane  remembers cleaning barrels as a kid (small enough to get in them!).  His first vintage was 1989 at the age of 19 and his precise work in the cellar was immediately recognized by his peers, as Jura wines were then quite "rustic," nothing like what is made today. Stephane soon stopped adding yeasts for his fermentations and, after meeting Nady Foucault at Clos Rougeard, he began conversion to organic agriculture, one of the first in the Jura. The domaine was certified organic in 1999 and biodynamic in 2004 and new plantings were all done with massale selection rather than the clones then used throughout the region.  He produced his first "Chardonnay de Terroir" in 1997 and In 2000 he was able to purchase great parcels in Les Bruyeres, La Mailloche and Chateau Chalon. "Our biodynamic work in the vineyards gives us pleasure and enables us to vinify our wines in a natural way that reflects our terroirs and our work, far from the industrial techniques that banalize wine." Stephane's energy, intelligence and hard work have helped transform the Jura from a vinous backwater into one of the world's most exciting wine regions. We urge you to come meet and taste with M. Tissot this Thursday! We are are offering a wide selections of these unique and oustanding wines, arriving at the store Wednesday April 9th.

Tissot NV Cremant du Jura Rose

This is a fabulous wine from Stéphane Tissot’s biodynamic estate in Arbois. His crémant is a blend of Chardonnay, Poulsard, and Pinot Noir and it is a stunning, vibrant pink hue with orange flecks. On the nose it shows bright red raspberries, quince, orange blossom, and tart red cherries. On the palate it is lush and fruit-forward, yet dry with a fine mousse, minerals, and a delicate spice. Since this wine is so well-structured, it would be perfect paired alongside summer salads, grilled salmon, or just about anything! Tim Gagnon

Tissot 2012 Arbois Trousseau Singulier

Cooler, more high-toned, brambly, and earthy than Tissot's 2011 Singulier, with beautiful floral, dark cherry, and herbal notes on the nose, we are thrilled with the 2012 vintage of this wine. The palate offers tart and sweet cranberry, raspberry seed, sumac, and cherry fruit with the Burgundian earthiness, lashings of acidity, and fine but firm tannins that make us love this bottle. Delicate and quaffable, this is a fabulous Jurassic choice for lovers of Burgundy as it hits a Pinot-like sweet spot on both the nose and the palate. MSB
