Bérêche, Raphael NV Champagne Brut Réserve OLD

The much loved Bérêche Brut Reserve is back! The previous iteration sold out early in the 2014 holiday season and we are downright giddy to stock this newly arrived instant classic, a 2/3rds blend of the 2012 vintage (equal parts pinot noir, chardonnay, and meunier) and 1/3rd reserve wine (pinot noir dominated). Disgorged in October 2014 and immaculately balanced at 7 grams of dosage, this is a nod to an era of bygone elegance.

Golden in faded and burnished tones with amber-pinkish edges, one could be forgiven for buying 2 bottles: one to enjoy immediately and one to marvel at in a coupe or lyre-shaped decanter. Immediately upon uncorking, there are fleeting aromas of fresh raspberries and fresh mint, followed by cinnamon, butterscotch, hazelnut, and wheat biscuits. The palate is rich and balanced for days with hints of lemon/lime zest, raspberries, and chocolate that crescendo to a biscuity finale. As an aperitif it’s a showstopper and paired with food, one’s thoughts turn to roasted poultry or game and their drippings! David Salinas

Closel (Château des Vaults) 2012 Savennières La Jalousie

Chenin Blanc grown on schist soils on a slope above the Loire, organic farming. The 2012 Jalousie shows lovely lime-flower, citrus, white fruits and honey aromas. The palate is round with white and yellow fruits, citrus, a bit of jasmine and anise perhaps, with firm acidity and stony mineral flavors in the finish. A great pairing with full-flavored fish and chicken dishes, mild cheeses. Lovely wine!

Ponce 2013 Manchuela Reto Albilla

Reto a perennial favorite among customers and staff, made of 100% Albilla, biodynamically farmed by Manchuela's Juan Antonio Ponce. Mouth-watering aromas are of crisp green apple, chewy peach skins, and fresh green herbs. Reto's characteristic blend of silky fruit and warm Mediterranean spice is balanced on the medium-bodied palate by bright acidity and a cool minerality that marks all of Ponce's wines: Meyer lemon, lime curd, musky apricot, lavender, lemon balm, coriander, and the long saline finish are reminiscent of some of our favorite young Chenin Blancs. An elegant, mysterious, and versatile wine that will pair fabulously with fish, poultry, and deviled eggs. Ariana Rolich

Magnien, Stephane 2012 Morey-Saint-Denis

The young Stephane Magnien is becoming widely known for his elegant, unforced, old-fashioned Burgundies and his delicious "village" Morey-Saint-Denis is an outstanding value. High-toned aromas of raspberry, tart cherry, violet and blood orange with lovely depth and persistence. The palate is medium-bodied with a mineral center, really showing the terroir followed by earthy black fruits and saline acidity that continue on the long stony finish. This may lack the weight of the superb 2010, but the bright subtle fruit and great terroir-expression make this an excellent choice as well. Lovely now, best in five to ten years.

Broc Cellars 2013 Sonoma County Zinfandel Vine Starr

100% Zinfandel from two organically farmed vineyards in Sonoma, 2013 might be the freshest, most finessed vintage of Vine Starr from Broc Cellars' Chris Brockway yet. Aromas of lilac flowers, star anise, and seedy, brambly black raspberry and mulberry lull the drinker as the palate invigorates with tart cranberry, blood orange, and juicy red raspberry fruit, matched by deep, savory earthen and mineral components. Vio, Aimone Giobatta 2011 Riviere Lingure di Ponente Rossese di Albenga

Straight from the foothills of Italy’s picturesque Ligurian Coast comes one of our favorite, lighter style reds perfect for the Thanksgiving table (or any table, for that matter). In the Albenga neighborhood Rossese yields a wine with light, translucent, cherry color, but the flavors are intense with shades of wild berries, soft moss and a clean sappy finish. Like our favorite Cru Beaujolais, this is a wine to serve slightly cool. The Vio family produces fresh, organic wines to complement their main business: the cultivation of delicious organic herbs and vegetables. John Rankin
