There is a surprising lack of well-written and reliable info in English about Italian wine, especially when compared to the acres of books on French wine. We are still dependent on Wasserman’s “Italy’s Noble Red Wines”, and that was last published in 1990! There are other good general books (by Nicholas Belfrage, for instance) but other than the “Wine Atlas of the Langhe”, there really isn't a decent book about Piedmont. The wait is over! Kerin O’Keefe has published the excellent “Barolo and Barbaresco”, a fitting companion to her great book on Brunello. We are honored to have her come to visit on March 5th, first to the store for a tasting and book-signing, and then to Maialino, for a special dinner. Along with great rustic food, we will drink: Giacomo Conterno Barolo 1964, Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 1971, Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino 1974, Cavallotto Barolo Riserva Colle Sud Ovest 1979, Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia Soprana 1982, and Marcarini Barolo Brunate 1989 (from double-magnum).
Dinner all-in (food, wine, service, tax) is $400; we have very few seats available, so please sign-up soon – you can purchase online, or just call the store to reserve your seats.
