Popular demand and this week's weather forecast have compelled us to assemble another delicious Spanish Mixed Case! This mouthwatering array of energizing whites, juicy rosés, and fresh, complex reds is specially selected to complement the market-fresh vegetables, meats, seafood, and herbs of the season. Recent arrivals include a pair of stately wines from Can Feixes, a certified organic estate in Penedès (the heart of Cava country, but also home to terrific, light-bodied still wines), perennial favorites from Bermejos and Matías i Torres in the Canary Islands, Garnacha Tintorera from the terroir sleuths of Envinate, and the most delicious zero-added-sulfur Garnacha (with Garnacha Tintorera) that we've tasted in a long time, from the high altitude, north-facing vines of Bodega Cauzón in Grenada.

Please enjoy these delicious selections and more at an excellent price (with free local delivery).* Detailed item descriptions can be found below. Cheers! Ariana Rolich

Bermejos 2013 Lanzarote Diego Seco

Fans of Bermejos' subtle, minerally Malvasia will adore this wine, made from another fabulous local Canary grape called Diego. A juicy and open wine, with fresh, easy acidity and lots of definition and poise, with aromas of crisp green apple, herbal lemon balm, and white pepper. Clear-fruited flavors include lemon, lime, tart apricot, and crisp pineapple, with green almond and green peppercorn notes alongside Lanzarote's trademark ashy minerality. The finish is long and direct. (Please note that Diego has been mistakenly identified with a grape called Vijariego Blanco, though the two varieties are distinct.) A cheerful choice for aperitifs, fish, springy soups and salads. Ariana Rolich

Avinyo 2014 Penedes Petillant

An irresistable, lightly fizzy wine from the Esteve Nadal family, who are Cava specialists in the heart of Spain's Penedes region. The petillant is a casual summertime quaffer, made from a high altitude planting of young Petit Grain Muscat grapes combined with the family's old vine Macabeu. Refreshing citrus zests mingle with delicate florals, salty mineral notes, and hints of almond. Given the number of requests we receive for this wine, we are inclined to call it addictive. Can Feixes 2013 Penedes Blanc Seleccio

A pure and nuanced white wine of 36% Parellada, 36% Macabeo, 20% Chardonnay, and 8% Malvasía de Sitges from Cava masters Can Feixes’ certified organic, high elevation vineyards on gravelly soils. Lime rind, apricot, and mossy florals on the nose, with bold, lean citrus flavors (orange, key lime, lemon peel), alongside green apple, white pepper, salty brine, and deep, stony minerality. Time to practice shucking oysters! Ariana Rolich

Vega de Tera 2013 Rueda Verdejo

Balance, purity, and affordability combine in Vega de Tera's organically farmed Verdejo, the great white grape of Spain's Rueda region. Aromas of yellow flowers, crisp orchard fruit, white pepper, and green herbs, followed by bright, refreshing flavors of crisp peach, lime oil, lemon seeds, florals, salt, and herbs. There is minerality and definition in this wine that is rarely found in Verdejo under $15. Food friendly, fresh, and lively - a true bargain! Ariana Rolich

Castellroig 2013 Penedes Ull de Llebre Rosat (Still)

100% Ull de Llebre from Marcel Sabate, producer of our perennial best selling sparkler - Castellroig Cava! His rose undergoes a short maceration and long, cool fermentation in stainless steel for a brisk and thirst-quenching wine of terroir. As with many of our favorite roses, this one displayed boisterous acidity and angularity upon release and benefitted from an extra year of evolution in the bottle. Sour cherry, wild strawberry, sea salt, and dusty raspberry patch aromas; tingly acidity buoys the deep, dry palate of wild green herbs, tart cranberry and raspberry, with a pronounced minerality on the long, cool finish. An excellent rose to pair with spicy fare and anything from the grill. Ariana Rolich

Viña Zorzal 2014 Navarra Garnacha Rosado

Viña Zorzal offers some seriously delicious wines from old vines for very little money (as fans of their delightful red Graciano can attest). This one honors the traditional wine of the Navarra region - rosado of Garnacha - and is made from the Sanz family's low-yielding, head trained, organically farmed, old vine Garnacha. Fragrant red current, raspberry, and pink peppercorn aromas lead to distinctive crushed cranberry and strawberry fruit, with zesty pink grapefruit, tropical and herbal undertones on the finish. Zorzal offers impressive concentration, freshness, and complexity at an unbelievable price. Bold, clear, and comforting, we love this wine after a particularly long day and alongside anything from the grill. Its new label features an image of popcorn kernels because Xabi Sanz of Zorzal recommends it as an accompaniment to popcorn and a movie. We look forward to giving that pairing a try! Ariana Rolich

Can Feixes 2008 Penedes Negre Tradicio

Rich, dry, and evolved, with many years to go, this Tempranillo-based blend (with Merlot, Cabernet, and Petit Verdot) from the historic Finca Can Feixes is fermented in stainless steel, with 12 months in French oak and 4 years in bottles before release. Aromas of cranberry, roses, tobacco leaf, and dark chocolate precede flavors of tart blackberry and dark cherry, wild blueberry, and fresh purple plums, with tremendous acidity and perfect amount of savory earth, tannin, and spice. Classic and versatile, with summertime braises and grilled eggplant. Ariana Rolich

D. Ventura 2012 Ribeira Sacra Do Burato

Tangy berry fruit of every color - tart red cherry to deep blackberry liqueur, with raspberries, boysenberries, and mulberries in between. Do Burato comes from 80+ year old vines, grown on the steep slate soils of Galicia's Ribeira Sacra. Raised entirely in stainless steel, its juicy acidity, easy young tannins, and mineral depth (not to mention excellent value) make it a staple on the Spanish shelf. A light and joyful red for lovers of the fresh style of Cabernet Franc on its own or paired with Mexican food, charcuterie, burgers, and roasted poultry. Ariana Rolich

Envinate 2013 Almansa Garnacha Tintorera Albahra

Envinate is a collaboration between four friends who met at enology school in Alicante and have gone on to make memorable and terroir-expressive wines from special parcels of vines all over Spain: the Ribeira Sacra, Canary Islands, and this one from the Almansa DO in Castilla-La Mancha. 100% Garnacha Tintorera (a pigmented and acidic grape) from 30-year-old organically farmed vines at 800 meters altitude on chalky, clay-calcareous soils. Wild yeast fermented, with 50% whole clusters, raised for 8 months in large cement vats. Aromas of roses, berry seeds, and pepper, with bold, clear strawberry fruit flavors, flanked by bitter earth, tea leaves, and complex notes of sticks and seeds, with assertive tannins and lots of fresh acidity. My first thought upon tasting this complex and textured wine was, "What should we have for lunch?" Served with a chill, it begs for burgers, herbed vegetables, charcuterie, and grilled poultry. Matías i Torres 2013 La Palma Tinto Negramoll

La Palma native Victoria Torres makes this lively, taut, minerally red wine in a large Roman press of Canarian pine that dates back to the 1800s. Her Negramoll vines in the fertile north of La Palma island grow at very high altitudes (up to 1400 meters), resulting in exceptional purity and nuance, bordering on weightlessness in some vintages. Aromas of wild strawberries, salty earth, tea leaf, and a good bit of peppery ash precede the palate of berry seeds, tomato water, wild rose, and fresh acid, with firm yet pretty tannins (Victoria favors whole clusters for this wine) and a long, subtly smoky, herbal finish.. Highly recommend as a refreshing expression of complex Canary Island terroir and an excellent red for grilled fish and vegetables. Ariana Rolich

Sierra de Toloño 2012 Rioja Tempranillo

Winemaker Sandra Bravo Marin crafts this bright and beautiful young Rioja from biodynamically farmed Tempranillo vines at 650m altitude in La Bastida (not far from the great Remelluri estate). Tart cherry, rich red plum, and cool mossy earth on the nose, with an exuberant, medium-bodied palate of crisp cranberry, sweet raspberry and wild cherries, with an earthy, mineral-laden finish. This is a Rioja of extreme quality and versatility in this price range and highly recommended. Ariana Rolich

Bodega Cauzon 2014 Andalucia Mozuelo

I caught a glimpse of this luminous, electric fuschia-hued wine from across a crowded tasting and had to have some. Thankfully, it turned out to be delicious! Ramon Saavedra farms organically and adds no sulfur whatsoever to his wines. His vineyards face north on alluvial soils at the base of the Sierra Nevada range at over 1000 meters altitude in Andalucia, resulting in impressive freshness and definition. Mozuelo is 85% Garnacha and 15% Garnacha Tintorera, pressed after a 4 day maceration and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Grape skins, raspberries, fresh flowers, and thyme on nose; the tart-and-sweet flavors of perfectly ripe purple berries fill the mouth, with crisp acidity, sea salt, strawberry plants, and herbs. An impressive 12.5% alcohol, despite coming from all the way south in Spain. Try it with burgers, chocolate, and tangy aged cheeses (best served with a light chill). Ariana Rolich
