Share

Given the scarcity and popularity of the best wines from the Jura, we're very happy to offer new arrivals and returning favorites from some of the regions best producers. And we are very excited to be collaborating with our friends down the street at Racines NY where they will pour a special selection of Jura wines by-the-glass on Tuesday September 29th from 6 pm until closing, with Chambers Street's Tim Gagnon in attendance! We will feature bottlings from the always fantastic Peggy and Jean-Pascal Buronfosse in Rotalier, delicious wines from Arbois made by Céline and Steve Gormally (Les Dolomies), the recently-arrived wines of Geraud and Pauline Fromont of Domaine des Marnes Blanches in Ste-Agnès, Domaine Saint-Pierre, Domaine Pont de Breux and a couple of interesting surprises from the cellar. Chef Fréderic Duca will be serving up his elegant cuisine as always, including a special Jura dish of "poularde au vin jaune, chanterelles sautees et pomme puree" so join us for dinner, snacks, or just to taste some of the most compelling wines this region has to offer!

The wines offered below are in very short supply, so don't delay.!

Buronfosse, Peggy and Jean-Pascal 2012 Crémant du Jura

After making the base wine for their 2011 Crémant from Savagnin (with delicious results), Peggy and Jean-Pascal Buronfosse have come back to Chardonnay for their 2012. On the nose this wine shows enticing aromas of poached Granny Smith apple, golden plums, green tea leaves, and lime blossom. The palate skews more mineral, with a pleasant richness balanced by a sharp, almost saline acidity, juicy citrus, and green apple.  With great length and complexity, this is a perfect example of clean, natural winemaking at its finest! Les Dolomies 2013 Cotes du Jura Les Combes Chardonnay

Céline and Steve Gormally have done it again! 100% chardonnay planted in the marl-heavy soils of the southern part of the Jura, their 2013 Les Combes is their best yet! It is a step up in precision and focus, with pure, unadulterated fruit and complex layers of more subtle aromas on the nose: apricot, pear skin, lime zest, jasmine, anise, and toasted walnuts come to mind. The palate offers the same balance with tantalizing salty, nutty, citrusy flavors and a mineral density that I find in their wines. It has nice weight as well, and a graceful saline finish marked by stone fruits. Truly a great wine! Tim Gagnon

Marnes Blanches (Geraud Fromont) 2014 Cotes du Jura Savagnin Les Molates

This cuvée comes from younger Savagnin vines, approximately 22-years old, and, if we could personify wine, would be the more bookish and quiet, but equally fascinating, sibling to the brawnier, captain-of-the-football-team Les Molates made from Chardonnay. The nose is juicy and exotic with tropical melon, lychee, and citrus pith yet the palate is much more elegant and understated, skewing more mineral with a tangy salinity bringing up the rear. Give this wine some time to breathe and you will be greatly rewarded! Tim Gagnon

Saint Pierre 2008 Arbois Savagnin

The man behind this wine, Fabrice Dodane, seems to have a penchant for making his sous voile wines in cooler vintages (the last vintage we had of this wine was 2004) and given the results, we couldn't agree more. 2008 was no exception to temperate weather, and the wines that came out of it were much more bracing and ethereal. On the nose it is bright and smoky with aromas of mustard seed and quince and the palate is mineral and citrusy with a mouth-coating texture: all of the things we love about this style of wine. Lovers of traditional Jura wines should take notice! Tim Gagnon

Marnes Blanches (Geraud Fromont) 2014 Cotes du Jura Poulsard

The Fromont’s Poulsard is exactly what we love about this grape: incredibly bright red cherry fruit, a funky, savory spice, translucent color, and an incredible depth of flavor. The grapes are hand-harvested and go into fiberglass tanks for whole-cluster maceration that lasts 2 days (which is the same for all of their red wines). Alcoholic fermentation lasts about two weeks with no punchdowns or pumping over and the wine is raised in neutral barrique before being bottled unfined and unfiltered with a small addition of sulfur. This is simply a delicious wine! Tim Gagnon

Buronfosse, Peggy and Jean-Pascal 2013 Côtes du Jura Éphémère 1.5 L

A MAGNUM of Pinot Noir and Poulsard from the Buronfosse family! They farm just 4 hectares of vines in the sleepy hamlet of La Combe below Rotalier, not far from Jean-Francois Ganevat, and have become known for their pure, clean, and compelling natural wines. Peggy and Jean-Pascal produce a miniscule amount of red wines at their domaine, so it’s always exciting when we see that it has arrived. Think lip-smacking, tart red cherries, a hint of red flowers, ample minerality, and a touch of Jurassic funk. This is a seriously gulpable and delicious wine!  Tim Gagnon

Saint Pierre 2012 Arbois Pinot Noir Cuvée Saint Pierre

Fabrice Dodane farms six hectares organically just outside of Arbois, and we have loved all his wines that have come through our doors. 2012 was the first vintage of Cuvée Saint Pierre, and it really struck a chord with me. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, traditionally vinified in old, very large oak barrels, and with no SO2 added at any time -- this is Arbois at its purest. Brambly red berry fruit, candied rose petal and tangerine peel come to mind balanced by a stiff mineral backbone and a fair amount of grip. This is a very well-structured wine, with a delicate spice and more red berry fruit punctuating the finish. Fabrice's current release for this cuvée is 2014, so don't miss the opportunity to taste this before it's gone! Tim Gagnon

Les Dolomies NV Jura Macvin Blanc

Macvin is one of those wines that, either before and/or after a meal, can truly pique the interest of every lucky diner sitting around the table. The Gormally’s Macvin Blanc is made from Savagnin with a touch of Chardonnay and opens up with exotic aromas of stewed lemon, bay leaf, butterscotch, green curry, and green olive. On the palate it is honeyed with mouth-watering tropical fruits, zippy acidity, and toasted walnuts lasting onto a seemingly never-ending finish. Serve chilled as an aperitif, or with a multitude of desserts ranging from fine chocolates, sorbet, or even a classic cheese course. This is pure joy to drink!  Tim Gagnon
