Join Laurent Charvin, the sixth generation at this great estate, for a rare (and last minute) appearance in the US at Racines NY! We'll taste eight vintages from 2000 to 2014 and enjoy a brilliant four-course dinner by Chef Frédéric Duca. Domaine Charvin, now certified organic, is one of the finest and most traditional of all Southern Rhone estates. Fermentations are whole-cluster, with minimal extraction, and the wine ages in concrete vats for 18 to 24 months, yielding an elegant, complex wine of terroir, always among the very best in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Very little wine is currently available - we offer small quantities from two vintages of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and a few cases of the lovely Côtes-du-Rhône "Le Poutet," arriving this Wednesday.

Only 3 seats are still available at this intimate dinner. $195.00 tax, tip and wine included.

Charvin 2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape

The Charvin 2012 is a great success - perhaps not up to the magnificent 2010 but still a big, spicy, exotic wine with great balance despite its weight and power. The aromas are classic Chateauneuf with black fruits, prune, Asian spice and garrigue. The palate is deep and ripe but with good freshness - and unlike most modern Rhone reds, a real sense of earth and minerals in the long dense finish. Put this away for a few years, then drink till 2035...

Charvin 2013 Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Domaine Charvin is one our favorite Chateauneuf-du-Papes - they have old Grenache vines, fermentations are whole-cluster and there is no new oak - in fact no oak at all in the cellar. The 2013 is a lovely CDP to drink young, showing a pretty melange of ripe cherry, raspberry and red currant with rose, blood orange and garrigue. The palate is very sappy and dense, without excess weight, with cherry, red currant, spice, citrus and earthy flavors with  a long finish of red  fruits and saline minerals. Quite delicious now served with pork and lamb dishes or a daube nicoise - it will become a superb mature wine, best 2021 to 2030. DL

Charvin 2013 Cotes-du-Rhone Le Poutet

The 2013 Côtes-du-Rhône "le Poupet" is a real junior Chateauneuf showing classy Grenache fruit aromas, black cherry, spice and pepper. The palate is framed in saline minerals, with strawberry/cherry fruit, spice and earth. A quite serious glass of Grenache to enjoy now, served a bit cool, or cellar for five years.
