Elizabeth and Liam's Wedding Registry

We love wine. OK, OK... let us rephrase that: we are rather obsessed with wine.

The first summer we lived together during college, we stayed on a vineyard and interviewed lots of California winemakers about organic and biodynamic viticultural practices. As part of our education, we stopped by the "Bottle Barn" and bought a selection of California Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. We sipped them, taking attentive notes, on a deck looking over the Russian River Valley, sitting next to a cat named Muscat.

And that was only the beginning of what has become a life-long love affair with wine! In our travels together, we always find our way to a vineyard, and have amassed some incredible memories and stories along the way. Italy, Greece, Austria, Croatia, even Minnesota!

With this wine registry we are hoping to involve you in our wine passion (er, obsession). Browse our list below, and feel free to call Chambers Street Wine directly if you have any questions (212)-227-1434.

Cheers! Yamas! Saluti! Zivjeli! Prost!

Breton, Catherine et Pierre 2011 Bourgueil Les Perrieres

Tasted twice in February 2016 and 2017, the 2011 Les Perrières has impressed both times with it's structure and complexity, showing dense, deep earthy red fruits with meaty and herbal notes. There is ample tannin for aging, but there is good ripeness that opens up nicely with decanting. This superb Bourgueil will accompany grilled pork and beef and full-flavored cheeses. Decant 3 to 4 hours in advance if serving now, or cellar - best perhaps 2020 to 2030. DL

Traginer NV Banyuls Ambre (aged 15 years) 500ml

The Traginer Banyuls Ambré would be an unusual and delicious way to end your feast, pairing well with the pies and delicious to sip when the meal is over...This superb wine is made from Grenache Gris, Grenache Noir, Grenache Blanc and Muscat, aged for 15 years in small, very old barrels. Complex aromas of citrus, tea, prune, flowers and caramel. The palate is balanced, with a pretty melange of citrus, white fruits, earth and secondary flavors, very long and lifted by nice acidity. A gorgeous vin doux naturel that will accompany aged cheeses, figs and foie gras, and it's sensational beautiful by itself. Really a unique and delicious wine. DL

Ruppert-Leroy 2012 Champagne Brut Nature "Fosse-Grely" Autrement

We have waited all summer for the no sulfur added Fosse-Grely "Autrement" and it's finally here! Sourced from organically and biodynamically grown grapes in the chalky/clay soils of single, north-west facing, amphitheater-shaped parcel, this wine is 100% Pinot Noir and brilliantly golden in color with a finely beaded mousse. The nose offers aromas of Cortland apples, hazelnuts, anise, toffee, and lime blossom. While the palate is alive with a powerful minerality that carries notes of Jonagold and Granny Smith apples, fenugreek, and linden blossom through to a hazelnut finish. Finely balanced and delicious! (Disgorged 4/2015)

Beaufort, André 2002 Champagne Polisy Brut Nature

A sensational mature Champagne from André Beaufort - the estate converted to organic agriculture in the early 70's and makes brilliant, full-bodied Champagnes that are among the most "vinous" being made today. Medium golden yellow in color and sporting a discrete mousse. The nose is quite floral with tones of cherry blossoms, apple blossoms, and irises before touches of quince and fresh baguette. The palate is concentrated with a spherical and laser-like focus that offers notes of lemon sorbet, tart lemon custard, and apple pie, underlined by a fine minerality that persists through to a rounded, savory finish. Really a very pretty and lovely wine. This medium bodied Champagne is made of approximately 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay and was disgorged in March 2017 after 14 years of sur-lie aging, illustrating the Beauforts' commitment to releasing mature wines.

Kelley Fox 2014 Willamette Valley Mirabai Pinot Noir

A blend of two legendary Oregon vineyards, Maresh and Momtazi, Kelley Fox's 2014 Mirabai Pinot Noir is considerably more structured and fruit-forward than the 2013, reflecting the warmth and sunshine of the vintage. Initially enticing with dried black cherry and sage notes, this vintage is chock full of ripe black fruits with savory, herbal, and baking spice undertones. Jonas Mendoza

Eyrie Vineyards 2014 Dundee Hills Original Vine Reserve Pinot Gris

Eyrie Vineyards is one of the original historic wine estates in Oregon. It was officially founded by David and Diana Lett in 1966 when they planted their vineyards in the Red Hills of Dundee, about 30 miles southwest of Portland. The winery was built in nearby McMinville and the first vintage to be produced and bottled was the 1970. The Pinot Gris vines were originally planted in 1966 and are own-rooted and dry farmed. The Pinot Gris is very lush with a crunchy texture. On the nose, nectarine, golden raisin, and cantaloupe aromas emerge. On the palate, ripe summer peach and dried herbs. This is truly one one of the benchmark wines in Oregon, let alone the United States. Jonas Mendoza

Huet 2008 Vouvray Le Haut Lieu Moelleux

*This wine is in the warehouse and will not be available for pick-up or delivery until after Labor Day.

2008 is a great vintage for moelleux and demi-sec Vouvray as the high acidity of the vintage gives fabulous brightness and balance to the extra sweetness. The Huet 2008 Haut-Lieu is superb now with terrines, foie gras, vegetable soups, mild cheeses and much more - and don't hesitate to age ten more years.

Closel (Château des Vaults) 2014 Savennières Clos du Papillon

"The Clos du papillon is a small valley at mid slope, beautifully exposed southwest to the light of the Loire. There are schist, rhyolite but also quartz. The topsoil layer is very shallow (60 cm) which provides excellent drainage for rainwater. The vine growing conditions are difficult, forcing it to develop its roots deep in the rock cracks to draw nutrients. The climate in that parcel allows for a level of highly advanced maturity, with grapes that concentrate aromas under the action of botrytis.  The body and the very long finish make the Clos du Papillon a gastronomic wine to accompany lobster, scallops, smoked fish, Turbots, Saint Peter. It is also interesting with delicate white meats such as veal or capon, along with truffles or mushrooms. Classic mountain cheeses like old Salers, or 5 to 6 years old Comté are equally delicious with this great Savennières." -  Domaine du Closel.  2014 is a great vintage for Loire whites, combining excellent ripeness with bright acidity and great balance - the Clos du Papillon shows beautiful aromas of ripe pear and quince with honeysuckle, lime-flower and dried herbs with hints of smoke and earth.  The palate is superb, very ripe and dense with white fruits, citrus, almond and stone with very firm lemony acidity and mineral flavors. The finsih is very long with bitter lemon and saline minerals. Drinking beautifully now, this should age well, peak drinking perhaps 2020 to 2025 and beyond. David Lillie

Closel (Château des Vaults) 2014 Savennières La Jalousie

This year we're featuring Chenin Blanc in our Thanksgiving email with two great choices from the Loire Valley. These beautiful  wines are great food pairings due to their unique combination of ripe fruit, firm acidity and saline minerals that complement the full-flavored dishes of the holiday table. The 2014 La Jalousie is a particularly great choice as the vintage gave  the wine luscious ripeness while retaining the bright acidity so important for balance and freshness.

Evelyn de Pontebriand took over her parents’ estate in 2001 after a long career teaching French literature all over the world. As a lover of all things botanical, it did not take long for her to convert the estate to strictly organic farming and she continues to experiment with different vineyard management techniques in her quest to highlight Savennière's austere terroir. Her work in the cellar is very traditional with fermentations occurring naturally with indigenous yeasts and SO2 is used in miniscule doses only if needed. The Chenin Blanc vines from the La Jalousie parcel are 15-20 years old and are planted in sandstone and decomposed quartz schist soils. On the nose it shows classic Savennières aromas of stone fruits, papaya, mango, and waxy citrus fruits. The palate is quite full-bodied and offers luscious tropical fruit anchored by minerals and more juicy citrus. The 2014 is the finest La Jalousie in many years - beautifully balanced and delicious now, but would be interesting to taste in 5-10 years! Tim Gagnon

Saint Pierre 2008 Arbois Savagnin

The man behind this wine, Fabrice Dodane, seems to have a penchant for making his sous voile wines in cooler vintages (the last vintage we had of this wine was 2004) and given the results, we couldn't agree more. 2008 was no exception to temperate weather, and the wines that came out of it were much more bracing and ethereal. On the nose it is bright and smoky with aromas of mustard seed and quince and the palate is mineral and citrusy with a mouth-coating texture: all of the things we love about this style of wine. Lovers of traditional Jura wines should take notice! Tim Gagnon

Rapet, Père et Fils 2013 Aloxe-Corton

The 2014s have arrived - take advantage of this discounted price on our last of the 2013s! From old vines on fairly deep iron-rich soils south of the village. The 2013 shows very pretty black-raspberry, red currant, violet and spice aromas, quite lovely. The palate is dense and full, obviously young, with firm acidtity and strong mineral flavors mingling with black fruits and earth. This needs time or long decanting if drinking now. Potentially a great bottle, best 2020 to 2030.

Clerico, Francesco 2010 Barolo Bussia Vigna Colonello

I think the 2010 Barolo is a special wine, showing transparent Bussia dark fruit, elegant and austere stoniness, and the harmonious character of the vintage's best wines. The equilibrium and finesse that are part of those best wines is very evident; although the 2010 will age (and improve) for a very long time, it’s quite delicious now. Regarding Bussia, in Barolo MGA, the great cartographer Alessandro Masnaghetti writes: “The first cru, along with Rocche di Castiglione, to be officially declared on a Barolo label in the “modern era”, Bussia is not only the best vineyard site in all of Monforte d’Alba, but one of the super-stars of the entire appellation, capable of stimulating the dreams and desires of wine lovers all over the world.” Don't be put off by the low price! We set prices based on what we pay – if we get a good buy, then you do too. The Clerico wines are imported for Chambers Street; with more beaks dipping, the Barolo would normally be 50-60% more expensive in this market, as is the case for many of Clerico’s peers. The favorable exchange rate with the Euro has also helped make this an incredible buy for the quality of the wine. Jamie Wolff

Albamar 2014 Rias Baixas Finca O Pereiro Albariño

Winemaker Xurxo Alba comes from a long line of Albariño growers and his instinct and respect for the grape shine through. His elegant, expressive cuvée from the Finca O Pereiro Vineyard stands out each year and seems to reflect equally the unique site as well as character. Pereiro's low-yielding Albariño vines were planted in 1984 on clay-heavy, sandy soils just 50 meters from the sea. Soothing, subtle aromas of chamomile and beeswax contrast with the steely, structured palate of grapefruit, orange blossom and a hint of smoky mineral tone. A bold and subtle Albariño for fans of Benito Santos' single vineyard wines. Ariana Rolich

Fernando de Castilla NV Jerez Antique Oloroso 500ml

The sherries of Rey Fernando de Castilla are unlike any others. Despite a strong family resemblance among the various bottlings exemplified by elegant herbal depth, precise structure, and intense yet beautifully integrated acidity, each sherry is utterly unique. The 20+-year-old Antique Oloroso is enticing and memorable for its vibrant, velvety texture and seamlessly integrated notes of burnt toast, bitter nut skins, savory cocoa, dark spicy cinnamon, clove, mace, Guiness Beer, warm citrus zest, earthy marigolds, and the longest finish going on the sherry shelf. -AR

Adam, A.J. 2014 Mosel Riesling Dhroner Hofberg Kabinett 1.5 L

In 2000, Andreas Adam took on the noble task of revitalizing his family’s vineyards in Dhron, a small town located on the Mosel tributary of the same name. The slopes are south-facing with a cooler microclimate and a mix of weathered Devonian slate, iron oxide, and clay. This wine is a stunner! Very floral and aromatic, the palate is fresh and salty, with tart, malic vibes and more stone fruit than on the nose. Buying this magnum means you have a great time in your future, drink now or hold. Cari B

Prager 2001 Wachau Grüner Veltlinger Smaragd Zwerithaler

Aged Riesling is far more easy to come by than aged Grüner Veltliner, so far fewer people have had the chance to be introduced to the charms of Austria's signature white grape with over 10 years of time in the bottle. Zwerithaler isn't one of Prager's better-known sites; it's actually been years since we've seen a current release. The rich, pithy, peachiness of Prager's 2001 Rieslings is really dialed back here (albeit still somewhat present). In its place is a laser-like sense of acidity and pervasive stoniness. With time this will continue to develop more and more earthy, mushroomy secondary character in place of the fruit, but right now it's zingy and bracingly mineral. Very cool wine and really quite tasty. -jfr
