Over the next two weeks, some of California's finest winemakers will be visiting the shop for in-store tastings and joining us for wine dinners. Do not miss tonight's tasting with John Lockwood of Enfield Wine Co. from 5pm until 7pm. Lockwood worked with two of California's best winemakers and growers - Ted Lemon of Littorai and Ehren Jordan of Failla - before launching Enfield Wine Co., his wine label with partner Amy Seese. We have been wowed by Enfield's consistent excellence across grape variety and region, driven by Lockwood's keen sensitivity to each vineyard's temperament and soils. Tonight's lineup will include the addictively offbeat Heron Lake Chardonnay from Napa's Wild Horse Valley AVA, Coryelle Fields Syrah from Fort Ross-Seaview AVA (Sonoma County), two Tempranillos (yes, California Tempranillo!) from Shake Ridge Vineyard in Amador County and Matthew Rorick's (Forlorn Hope) Heritage Vineyard in Calaveras County, and one of the most palpably mineral California Pinot Noirs you will ever taste, from the limestone soils of Antle Vineyard in Chalone AVA.

Tomorrow, Friday 5/20, from 5pm until 7pm: Morgan Twain-Peterson of Bedrock, master of heirloom vineyards and vines, will be making his debut behind the Chambers Street tasting table, alongside his partner in Bedrock, our good friend Chris Cottrell. Morgan and Chris will highlight several of Zinfandel's subtler expressions through the lens of their lovely, lifted 2014 releases from Evangelho Vineyard in Contra Costa County, Sherman's Gold in Amador County, and the Bedrock Heritage Vineyard in Sonoma Valley, in addition to 2015 Ode to Lulu Rose in magnum (a Chambers Street exclusive) and some rare Champagne-method sparklers from their Under the Wire project.

Alex Krause serves up Grenache in Besson Vineyard.

A handful of seats remain for our Birichino dinner at Blue Ribbon Bakery with winemakers Alex Krause and John Locke, next Wednesday 5/25 at 7:30pm. Chef Matt Deliso and Wine Director Sam Ehrlich never fail to create inspired, seasonal pairings, and this menu is no exception! Please join Alex and John beforehand for an in-store tasting from 5pm until 7pm, where they will pour their unique sparkling and still Malvasias and terrifically fresh, energetic, and affordable wines from Pinot Noir, Grenache, Cinsault, and Zinfandel. Tickets for dinner (and the pairing menu) are available below.

Thursday 5/26 5-7pm: Stephy and Brian Terrizzi pour Giornata.

Thursday 6/2 5-7pm: Eric Demuth Pours Eric Demuth (dinner to follow, details TBA)!

Birichino 2013 Central Coast Besson Vineyard Grenache

The grapes from this vineyard (named after George Besson Sr. and Jr. whose families have lived and tended this vineyard since the 1930s) is fermented with native yeasts, using 15% whole cluster (with the rest destemmed), and racked into neutral barrels, unfined and and unfiltered. This wine envelops the palate with black cherry skin and fruit flavors, and violet, freshly rained earth, and menthol undertones. Despite the lightness and brightness of this Grenache, all the flavors resonate with an understatedly profound intensity. Pair with roast turkey with cranberry sauce or mushroom and herbed stuffing! Bedrock 2015 California Ode to Lulu Rose 1.5 L

A Chambers Street Wines exclusive: Magnums of Ode to Lulu Rose! This fresh, yet serious patio-sipping rosé is a blend of Mourvedre, Grenache, and Carignan. The Mourvedre comes from old plantings at Bedrock Vineyard and Pagani Ranch in Sonoma Valley; the Grenache was planted in the 1880’s at Gibson Ranch in McDowell Valley; the Carignane planted in the 1950’s in Ukiah. On the nose, there are notes of summer strawberries and red cherries; after some time, the rosé considerably opens up on the palate, with flavors of blood orange, dried cranberries, red grapefruit, and dried sage and thyme. Thanks to our friends at Bedrock Wine Co. for sending a few double bottles of this delicious rose our way! Jonas Mendoza

Bedrock 2014 Sonoma Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Red

Bedrock Vineyard is one of the most important historical plots of land in Sonoma Valley. Founded in 1854 by General William “Tecumseh” Sherman and General “Fightin’ Joe” Hooker, Bedrock Vineyard has grown grapes for over 150 years. Following the first epidemic of phylloxera in the mid-1880’s, the vineyard was replanted in 1888 by Senator George Hearst — a mining magnate — and father of publisher William Randolph Hearst. The fruit density of these very old vines shows through with black raisin and plum aromas and concentrated ripe blackberry and blueberry flavors. With Amarone-like texture, this Bedrock doesn’t come off jammy, however, with solid tannins on the finish. Jonas Mendoza

Birichino 2014 Monterey Malvasia Bianca

The Birichino winery was initially launched to produce Malvasia Bianca before winemakers Alex Krause and John Locke later ventured into making Grenache and Pinot Noir. The grapes were sourced from a rocky plot in the Santa Lucia Highlands, aged in stainless steel, and briefly fermented on their skins overnight. The wine immediately draws attention with fragrant notes of lychee, ambrosia, sea spray, and crushed river rock; the palate follows with summer peach and apricot flavors as well as a bright, saline finish underpinned by white floral notes. For the Italians, the word "birichino" connotes mischievousness; if there were a white that could be considered this quality, it would certainly be this one! Jonas Mendoza

Birichino 2014 Central Coast Pinot Noir "Saint Georges"

The Saint Georges Vineyard is located on the eastern side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, and is named after the father and son, George Besson Sr. and Jr., whose families have lived on the property since the 1920s and tended the vines. The Birichino Pinot has a light ruby robe, enticing with aromas and flavors of dried cranberry and red cherry, sage, tarragon, and red flowers, and finishing with subtle undertones of roasted meat and game. The granite and sandy loam soils in the vineyard impart a distinctive freshness and vibrant texture. Jonas Mendoza

Giornata 2013 Central Coast Il Campo Red

Stephy and Brian Terrizzi make some of the best domestic values on the market under their popular Broadside label. Their Giornata wines are slightly under the radar, despite being their first love and original label, and showcase their deep connection to the winemaking and native varieties of Italy. Il Campo marries rich texture, perfectly ripe fruit, and vivacious acidity - a Californian take on quality Italian table wine. A balanced blend of Sangiovese, Aglianico, and Barbera from organically farmed vineyards in Paso Robles, bursting with sweet purple plum, juicy cherry flesh, earthy nettles, resinous green herbs, and tangy pick peppercorns. Pair with grilled meats andsausages or pasta with eggplant and tomato sauce. Ariana Rolich

Eric Demuth 2013 Sonoma County Grenache Syrah

An equal blend of Grenache and Syrah. Red plum and red cherry skin aromas mingle with tart black cherry flavors and dried herbs and garrigue undertones. A southern Rhone blend that's lither and lighter than most Californians I've tasted, yet considerably more food-friendly. Pair with  game, lamb, ripe cheeses and even Indian food. Jonas Mendoza
