Magnum Dinner with Eric Demuth: Thursday 6/2 at Racines NY 7:00pm

We are thrilled to announce our second annual dinner with our good friend, Eric Demuth, who makes some of the most exciting wines coming out of California and is a much-anticipated visitor here at Chambers Street Wines!

Eric helped his father, Chris Demuth, to plant the now-famous Demuth Vineyard in Anderson Valley in 1982, to build the family winery, and to make their first estate wines. Decades later, his own Demuth label focuses on very small-scale vinifications (a total of 600 cases for 8 wines in 2015) from select parcels in some of Northern California’s most interesting vineyards and terroirs, fermented with native yeasts, and raised in Demuth's jam-packed but welcoming garage winery in the Russian River Valley. Equal parts experimental and consistent, fearless and perfectionistic, Demuth's sense of duty as a second-generation California winemaker informs the caliber of his wines.

Ranging from chiseled, volcanic, cool-climate Chardonnay from Bennett Valley's Black Knight Vineyards to opulent, layered, Syrah and Cabernet from the sun-baked and rocky Franciscan soils of Bei Ranch in Cazadero (Sonoma Coast), the wines reveal balanced, classical structure, with texturally and intellectually exciting dimensions that provide plenty of drinking pleasure upon release, but are built to age beautifully as well.

Delicious Demuth Magnums.

As participants will attest, last year's steak dinner with Eric at Back Forty West was extremely entertaining and full of surprises, so we knew that this year's event would have to include something extra special... The solution came via text message from Demuth: a photo of a hand-written inventory of back-vintage magnums. No, they were not for sale; but yes, we were welcome to choose some bottles for dinner!

Please join us in welcoming Eric Demuth next Thursday, June 2nd, for a dinner at Racines NY, where Chef Frédéric Duca will pair his classical French fare with a rare and fabulous lineup of Demuth magnums, including (but not limited to) 2007 Cabernet from Clajeux Vineyard in Sonoma's Chalk Hill, 2009 Cabernet from Bei Ranch in the Sonoma Coast, and a sneak preview of a 2014 Pinot Noir from Black Knight Vineyards in Bennett Valley, bottled last month for Chambers Street Wines (and scheduled to arrive later this summer). As always, Eric will arrive with some surprises from his suitcase. We look forward to seeing you there! Ariana Rolich

Eric Demuth 2011 Chalk Hill Clajeux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

From Chardonnay to Pinot Noir, Syrah, Grenache, and especially in his Cabernet bottlings, Eric Demuth's commitment to precision, depth of expression, and overall quality of his wines is palpable. He produced 92 cases of Cabernet from Sonoma's Clajeux Vineyard, a steep, cool, rocky site in the Chalk Hill A.V.A. near the western border of the Mayacamas Range and the Russian River Valley. Aromas of rose petals, cherry blossoms, and pits on the nose, with a dense, chewy palate of herbal black berries and cherry flesh and deep minerality, reflecting the volcanic soils of the site. We are outspoken fans of everything that Eric Demuth makes. Nuanced, stylish, and deep, Clajeaux Cab is drinking profoundly well right now. Ariana Rolich

Eric Demuth 2013 Sonoma County Grenache Syrah

An equal blend of Grenache and Syrah. Red plum and red cherry skin aromas mingle with tart black cherry flavors and dried herbs and garrigue undertones. A southern Rhone blend that's lither and lighter than most Californians I've tasted, yet considerably more food-friendly. Pair with  game, lamb, ripe cheeses and even Indian food. Jonas Mendoza
