Barolo + Barbaresco 1964

Share

1964 is considered one of a few really great Piemonte vintages – an “Annata Eccezionale” on Renato Ratti’s seminal vintage chart and the equivalent on many others, and it’s the source of some of the best old Nebbiolo we’ve had. Let’s find out how they’re holding up, by tasting Barolo from Burlotto, Cavallotto Riserva, Ceretto, Einaudi, Franco-Fiorina, Fontanafredda Riserva Speciale, Marcarini Brunate, Marchesi di Barolo, Bartolo Mascarello, Oddero, Prunotto, Francesco Rinaldi, and Vietti. Dinner, including food, wine, service, and tax, is $400.

Meanwhile, you will find below a selection of 1964 Barolo that you can taste in the privacy of your own home. Jamie Wolff

Oddero, Fratelli 1964 Barolo

Oddero is one of just a handful of producers who made excellent wine in the past and who continue to do so now. Admittedly our opinion of their current vintages is biased, since we admire Oddero's fidelity to Barolo made in the traditional manner. Anyway, the old wines are great, and we're happy to have old vintages whenever we can.
