New Arrivals from Lise and Bertrand Jousset in Montlouis!

Share

We're very happy to announce the arrival of another shipment of gloriously delicious wines from our new friends Lise and Bertrand Jousset in Montlouis! Their wines have become enormously popular both for their exceptional value and for their wonderful purity and vivacity, due to the character transmitted by the living soils of their vineyards, and to the Joussets' precise, hand-off vinifications with zero or minmal added sulfur. Primarily working with Chenin Blanc in Montlouis, they also grow Gamay, Grolleau and Chardonnay on parcels in Touraine. The vines are between 30 and 130 years old, with even some franc de pieds! Their approach is simple: "we want to make wines that express their character and their origins, in other words 'living wines.' For this we need living soils with great microbial activity and living vineyards with a balanced animal and vegetal life in our parcels." The wines included in this shipment are all perfect for current consumption and are guaranteed to bring some joy to your end-of-summer vacations and get-togethers - although the 2014 Montlouis Premier Rendez-Vous is such a lovely wine that you may want to save some to enjoy over the next few years. And the beautiful demi-sec MontlouIs "Trait d'Union" will benefit from extended cellaring. David Lillie

Jousset, Lise et Bertrand 2014 Vin de France Exile Blanc

This is a lovely blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay from our friends at Domaine Jousset in Montlouis. Starting with the difficult 2013 vintage, Lise and Bertrand have been purchasing grapes from friends of theirs who also work organically in the vineyard, and the result is the Éxilé! The 2014 bottling shows intriguing aromas of dried pear, apple, citrus, lime-flower, stone and spice, a bit unusual and quite interesting. The palate is round and fresh with white fruits, earth, lemon, caramel and stone with a bit of spice in the long finish. A lovely and versatile natural wine that is a great aperitif and will complement full-flavored fish dishes, chicken and white meats.

Jousset, Lise et Bertrand 2015 Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil Exilé Rouge

The Joussets made this lovely natural wine from organic Cabernet Franc grapes grown by Sébastien David in Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil. (The wine was  harvested, vinified and bottled by the Joussets under their negoce label.) This juicy and delicious wine shows "sauvage" aromas of black-raspberry, plum, pepper and earth; the palate is soft and ripe with black fruit, spice and earthy flavors backed by citrusy acids, with lush fruit, earth and good acidity in the long finish. Just delicious! Serve quite cool with grilled chicken and pork, charcuterie and mild cheeses. David Lillie
