Jancis sets the evening in motion.

Jancis Robinson Presents: Barolo Night in New York!

This event is now sold-out - our apologies if you didn't get a ticket. We will start a waiting-list, so please call the store to take a place on the list.

In November 2014 I attended Jancis Robinson’s annual tasting in London of the current Barolo vintage (for the 2010s), and it was a great evening. We tried over 40 of the best wines of the vintage (whatever your style preference in Nebbiolo might be, the wines were present) in a very civilized setting – it was a walk-around tasting where you help yourself to wine, and it was easy to try everything; unlike so many NY events it wasn’t too crowded. Jancis spoke a bit about the vintage, and both she and Walter Speller, her expert critic for Italian wine, were available for relaxed consultation; all-in-all it was a unique means of getting a really good impression of the vintage.

The London tasting in full swing.

Naturally we jumped at the chance to help out with setting up a New York version of the event – Jancis and Walter will be here to present the wines, and to celebrate Jancis’ newest book, The 24-Hour Wine Expert. This time we will taste 40 - 50 Barolos from 2012, the highest-scoring wines on JancisRobinson.com, including (list in formation): Altare, Fratelli Alessandria, Barale, Bel Colle, Boasso, Brezza, Brovia, GB Burlotto, Castello di Verduno, Cavallotto, Ceretto, Cogno, Colla, Cordero di Montezemolo, Ettore Germano, Giacomo Fenocchio, Fontanafredda, Mario Marengo,  Bartolo Mascarello, Giuseppe Mascarello, Massolino,  E. Pira di Chiara Boschis, Luigi Pira, Giovanni Rosso, Luciano Sandrone, Paolo Scavino, Giuseppe Rinaldi, GD Vajra, Mauro Veglio, Vietti, Roberto Voerzio, etc, etc. This is an evening not to be missed by any Barolo aficionado!

Monday, October 24th, 2016, 6-8:30pm at the Tribeca Grill; $120 per person includes 40-50 Barolo 2012, outstanding hors d’oeuvre (including the Tribeca Grill’s fantastic cheese presentation), and a copy of Jancis Robinson’s new book, The 24-Hour Wine Expert, a guide to the essentials of wine for one of your less-knowledgeable friends. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to Room to Read, a remarkable international program that spreads literacy throughout the developing world and has already educated more than 10 million children.
