As we all recover from our post-Thanksgiving food comas, we thought it might be a good moment to highlight the fantastic collection of large format bottles we currently have at Chambers Street. More gatherings and feasts will follow as 2017 comes to an end, and in our opinion, nothing accompanies festivities better than mags! We hope you enjoy browsing through the offering, and that you find a fitting 1.5 or 3L for your next party or dinner!

** This is less a "Black Friday sale" than a reminder of the many options available for your future plans. We do offer 10% discount on 6 or more mags, and with the exception of a few items that are arriving on Tuesday, 11/28, all inventory is here and ready for delivery or pick up. Please note that mags ship separately from 750ml bottles, so separate shipping charges will apply if you order a mix of 750s and mags. Feel free to email office@chambersstwines.com with any questions. Happy holidays! **

Raventós I Blanc 2014 Conca del Riu Anoia de Nit Reserva Rosé 1.5 L

Pepe Raventos stepped outside of the Cava appellation in 2012 to create the Conca del Riu Anoia designation, which is committed to prioritizing the area's indigenous varieties, estate fruit, longer elevage, and biodynamic methods. The de Nit rosé was the first Conca wine and continues to sate and impress us with its lively aromas of pert pink lemonade, tart cranberry, and a hint of pepper; the palate is dry and elegant, with refreshing, bright acidity, flavors of strawberry seeds, musky ripe raspberries, and orange zests, flanking the complex saline and mineral core, stemming from Raventos' calcareous soils, rich with marine fossils. This is an incredibly versatile rose sparkling wine for apéritifs, snacks, richer seafood, and spicy fare. Ariana Rolich

Vignes du Maynes (Julien Guillot) 2014 Cremant de Bourgogne St. Genevieve 1.5 L (arr.11/28

The 2014 Sainte-Geneviève is a superb Champagne method sparkling wine made with 50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 20% Gamay grown at the Clos des Vignes du Maynes. The wine shows lovely aromas of white and red fruits, spiced pear and  blood orange with hints of cinnamon. The palate is creamy and full, with pear, a hint of red currant, honey, stone and brown spice with fabulous length. This is a beautiful living wine from soils that have never been treated with herbicides, pesticides or modern fertilizers. Highly recommended.

Bérêche, Raphael NV Champagne Brut Réserve 1.5L (Base 14/15)

Bérêche is one of our favorite growers with a number of smaller terroir specific cuvées and a wonderfully expressive base cuvée. The current disgorgement is a blend of 30% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 35% Pinot Meunier including 30% of wines from a perpetual blending system - aged in demi-muid (600 liters) barrels. Disgorged in July, 2017 with a dosage of 7 grams, the Brut Réserve is classically styled with a fine bead and burnished biscuity notes. Notes of golden delicious apple and red fruit dominate the nose with a palate that is both fresh and rich with a fine line of minerality throughout. This will make for an elegant apéritif, and work beautifully with richer foods such as chicken, poached salmon, or even lobster rolls. John McIlwain

Bérêche, Raphael NV (base 12) Champagne Brut Reflets d'Antan 1.5 L

Based on a perpetual cuvée dating from the 1980's, the wine combines the vivid, nervy fruit of a recent vintage with the burnished, textural and aromatic complexity of the aged wines which make up the 'solera.' The secondary fermentation under cork rather than crown cap adds an additional layer of finesse with a delicate bead and soft mousse. Reflets is 2/3 reserve wine and 1/3 from the 2012 vintage. The current release has a golden yellow robe and a super fine bead. The nose features aromas of shortbread, ripe apple, orange zest and baking spice. The palate is round and broad with an underlying mineral tension and a cool, vibrant, rising finish. Better served in a white wine glass to allow  the aromas to develop. A fine pairing with richer seafood dishes, roast poultry, or enjoy with a fine Comté. John McIlwain

Suenen 2014Base Champagne Oiry Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra-Brut 1.5

Aurelien Suenen is one of the bright young stars of the Côte des Blancs, whose Champagnes seem to improve with every new release. His 2014 based Oiry Blanc de Blancs is a beauty. Wines from the village are typically sold under the Cramant designation (we haven't been able to find another Champagne with this single village designation, as yet), so this is a fine opportunity to taste Oiry's distinctive, chalky terroir. Aurelien's parcels contain some very old Chardonnay vines which make for some pungently mineral, stony wines. The vins clairs are fermented partially in barrel, spend nine months on the lees, and are bottled with 1 g/l dosage. The 2014 is brisk, briny, and fresh on the nose with aromas of yuzu, Meyer lemon, quinine, and chalk dominating. The palate is chiseled, taut and very dry with racy acidity and an energetic driving finish. Suenen continues to grow with each vintage and this new line up of village designated Champagnes are particularly exciting. The 2014 will make a fine aperitif and shiny brightly with crudo or sashimi.  John McIlwain

Pépière 2012 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Ch.Thébaud 1.5 L

The Domaine de la Pépière Château Thébaud "Clos des Morines" comes from old vines on a beautiful vineyard sloping down towards the river. The granite here is fissured and permeable by the vine roots which have access to water during dry spells and absorb micro-nutrients along the way. 2009 and 2010 here were among the best of the vintage in Muscadet and the 2012 is outstnding as well from this somewhat difficult low-yielding vintage. More austere than the previous vintages, the 2012 shows subtle aromas of dried pear, herbs, citrus, almond and stone, quite subtle and elegant. The palate has excellent weight and concentration with firm acidity, without the forward fruit of the 2009 - very tight and mineral in style with terrific length. Fabulous served now with oysters, ceviche of cod, flounder and sole, and grilled fish, This should age beautifully for 20 years and more. Highly recommended. Tasted again in December of 2016, this beautiful Muscadet is beginning to open up a bit, with lovely fruit appearing in the aromas and palate, really drinking well, though obviously a wine that will benefit from another five years of aging, best perhaps 2022 - 2030.

Les Dolomies 2015 Cotes du Jura "Arco" Savagnin Ouillé 1.5 L

Céline and Steve Gormally farm their 5 hectares in Passenans, to the southwest of Arbois, with strictly biodynamic methods and consistently make stunning natural wines. Arco is 100% Savagnin from 20-year-old vines planted in rocky soils with a limestone base. Vinified and aged in neutral barrels for 9 months, it is a beautiful example of how much care the Gormallys put into all of their wines. Gorgeous tropical fruit aromas abound with delicate hints of walnut, lime blossom, and wildflower. The palate is gently saline with pure fruit, a piercing minerality, and a wonderful texture that leads into a crystalline finish dotted with hints of tangy pineapple stalk. It is absolutely delicious. Tim Gagnon

Falkenstein, Hofgut 2016 Saar Niedermenniger Herrenberg Spätlese Feinherb 1.5 L

This gloriously elegant magnum will bring loads of energy to even the weightiest Thanksgiving table. The nose is c lassic Saar riesling with citrus, freshly mown lawn, and a hint of white petals. Niedermennig riesling always impresses me with its extraordinarily pure petrol tones.  The palate impresses with its balance of opulence and linearity. The light sweetness is balanced by extraordinary energy. This wine will go head to head with the tartest cranberry sauce, pair fantastically with turkey or rich pork dishes, and complement richer sides like butternut squash mash or stuffing. Make sure to save some for the pumpkin pie. AP#11. Andrew Farquhar

Vollenweider 2016 Mosel Wolfer Goldgrube Rieslin Kabinett 1.5 L

Wolfer Goldgrube is a steep amphitheater rising above a bend in the Mosel river, south to southwest-facing, with predominately Devonian gray slate (certain parcels variegated with iron-rich red slate). Old vines here are ungrafted and some are over 80 years in age. The wine has a velvety, almost creamy richness with notes of peach, mango, and white flowers balanced by the lift of acidity. We are super-excited to offer Daniel's WG Kabinett en magnum, as we love his wines, and can think of few better ways to enjoy them than in large format with food and friends! Cari Bernard

Schaefer, Willi 2016 Mosel Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese #10 1.5 L

The AP numbers chosen by the Schaefer family reflect a style rather than a specific vineyard plot, with the #10 often having a bit less concentration than #5 and a bit more lift and minerality. This year's #10 boasts ginger spice with a touch of white flowers on the nose, the wine is both juicy and mineral, with linear flavors of green mango and apple-- a bit tight to open now, this bottle should age wonderfully!! Maestro Tejero, Alfredo 2016 Castilla y León Lovamor Albillo NO SO2 1.5 L

Lovamor is Alfredo Maestro's perennially sought-after white wine of 100% Albillo Mayor, a rare white variety in the Ribera del Duero, where red wine rules. With one week on the skins, bright acidity due to naturally-inhibited malolactic fermentation (Alfredo pushes the tank of wine outside into the winter cold!) and no added SO2, Lovamor is pert and minerally. Aromas of orange peels and white pepper lead to crisp, nuanced flavors of tart golden fruit, ripe orange, crunchy rocks and salt, and a tickle of tannins from the skins. Light enough for seafood and apéritifs, but delicious with some air alongside poultry, pork, fish and roasted vegetables with herbs. Ariana Rolich

Our domestic rose magnum this summer! Peter and Rebecca Work of Ampelos consistently produce some of the most delicious Pinot, Syrah, Viognier, and Grenache in Santa Barbara County. Farming and sustainability are central at Ampelos - they are Demeter certified biodynamic, SIP certified, and even their bottles are produced in California. Their 2016 rose is fresh and flavorful, combining 80% Syrah, farmed and harvested specifically for rose, 15% Grenache, and a 5% splash of Riesling from recently planted vines on their estate. Maestro Tejero, Alfredo 2016 Castilla y León Amanda Rosado de Lagrima NO SO2 1.5 L

I love a good rosé and the 2016 Amanda Rosado from Alfredo Maestro does not disappoint. 100% Garnacha Tintorera primarily from a single vineyard of 60-year-old vines planted on calcareous clay soils at 850 meters altitude in the province of Segovia, this rosé is vibrant, juicy, and packed with a ton of flavors. Displaying a bouquet of wild strawberries, boysenberry, rhubarb and citrus fruit, with some spice and floral undertones, this dry wine is deliciously luscious with its high minerality, great acidity, and medium body. Pair this wine with fun light dishes such as grilled seafood and Asian-inspired meals. Caroline Coursant

Lignier-Michelot 2015 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Les Faconnières 1.5L

Les Faconnières, planted in 1948, is located beneath Clos St. Denis. 50% whole cluster. This is always the most stylish of Virgile Lignier's premier crus. More floral and denser on the palate than Les Chenevery, with a good deal of the class of the grand crus. The 2015 is effusively perfumed with heady aromas of black and red hedge fruits, wild cherry, and spice. The palate is distinctly mineral, framing lush flavors of sweetly ripe cherry and blackberry, with notes of game and mustard seed on a tense, vibrant finish. As with others of Lignier-Michelot's 2015s, the effusive ripeness is underlain by good structure and bodes well for long-term cellaring. John McIlwain

Vignes du Maynes 2015 Bourgogne Cuvée Auguste 1.5 L

The Vignes du Maynes "Cuvée Auguste" is a superb Burgundy made from massale selection Pinot Fin planted in 1964. The parcel, high on the slope in Cruzille, is on Bathonian limestone with a great deal of calcium carbonate crystal (aragonite) with thin topsoils of clay and silica. Yields of 20 hl/ha, semi-carbonic fermentation, with zero additives, bottled under nitrogen. 2015 is a superb vintage for the Cuvée Auguste! The wine shows elegant aromas of black raspberry and wild strawberry with hints of blood orange, violet and brown spice - really lovely. The palate shows a beautiful melange of blackberry, strawberry and tart cherry with citrus, earth and minerals, very sappy and dense. Elegant finish of earth, stone and red fruits. This is a gorgeous wine, and quite delicious now, but cellaring of ten to twenty years should be possible. Congratulations to Julien Guillot for this beautiful Pinot! DL

Maillet, Jacques 2015 Savoie Mondeuse des Pauvres 1.5 L

It's almost as if it were meant to be that Maillet left us with this Mondeuse as his last! Typically the most structured and dark of Maillet's red offerings, 2015 provided ideal conditions to fully express the depth and potential of these selection massale vines (many of which are over 100 years old!). In the glass, it looks more like Syrah than anything we typically see from the Savoie. Vibrant wild blackberry aromas on the nose, with black cherry and cola notes on the palate, and a finish with notable tannic structure and mineral length. We'd recommend decanting a bit in advance or holding this wine for up to 10 years.  Eben Lillie

Dupasquier 2009 Savoie Gamay 1.5 L

We admire Dupasquier's wines for many reasons, but especially for their transparency. His wines have the ability to reflect the classic traditions of the Savoie without compromising the natural expression of the fruit, which he farms meticulously. In short, cracking into any bottle from Dupasquier generally promises to be a cerebral experience. The 2009 Gamay from magnum is no exception. This was a warm vintage even in the relatively cool climate of the Jongieux sub-region of the Savoie, where Dupasquier's south-facing vineyards are a sun trap that add considerable warmth to the red varietals. The wine shows brilliant freshness and restraint, qualities that speak to the extended barrel and bottle aging before release. The bright red fruit aromas are deeply integrated with hints of iodine and heady herbaceous notes of mint and tobacco leaf usually more present on day two of his current release vintages. The palate is firmly structured with flavors of tart blackberry, spiced cherry, dried basil and savory leather notes. The cool mineral finish gives enough buoyancy and energy to make this a good pairing with lamb cooked with herbs, or roasted poultry such as duck or quail. Amanda Bowman

This beautiful Saumur-Champigny is from a walled vineyard of old vines in Varrains, certified organic and worked with biodynamic methods as well. The wine shows a deep black/red color and ripe aromas of red currant and blackberry with earth, roast meat and citrus framed in a bit of oak, quite lovely. The palate shows lush, textured blackberry and black cherry fruit with earth and bitter chocolate backed by firm acidity that continues in the long finish. Delicious now served with a coq au vin, grilled steak or pork stew, this will age gracefully over the next ten to fifteen years.

From 8 plots on the terraces of the Anoia River planted in the '70s and '80s, de la Finca is a thought-provoking and pleasurable blend of the three native white grapes of Penedès: Xarello, Macabeu, and a small amount of Parellada.  An elegant, powerful, and mouthwatering match for clams with pork sausage or roasted chicken with dark leafy greens, it is positively off the charts with aged hard cheeses.

Bérêche, Raphael 2009 Champagne 1er Cru Ludes Le Cran 1.5 L

Of Bérêche's single vineyard wines, Le Cran is the richest and most powerful. Sourced from mid-slope parcels in Ludes and comprised of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Le Cran is a convincing argument for the distinctive terroir of the village. The vines are farmed organically, the base wines fermented and aged in wood, and the secondary fermentation done under cork rather than crown cap. The 2009 has a pale golden robe, a soft mousse, and fine bead. The nose is a melange of biscuity, autolytic aromas, with ripe tropical and orchard fruit notes giving way to scents of citrus peel and wet stone. The ample palate offers flavors of fresh golden apple, lemon curd, and mirabelle plum with a spine of salty minerality framing the ripeness. This is a powerful champagne whose richness is perfectly counterbalanced by its underlying structure and should gain nuance with 5-10 years in the cellar. Bravo! John McIlwain

Bérêche NV (2013 Base) Extra Brut Rose Campania Remensis 1.5L

Bérêche's Campania Remensis is a consistently fascinating rosé champagne, in a category fraught with uninspiring wines. The 2013 base is 65% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 5% still red wine from Ormes on the western side of the Montagne de Reims. This year the robe is salmon pink, verging on copper. The nose is redolent of wild strawberries, red currant, and pomegranate, with citrus peel and spicy top notes. The mid-weight palate displays a fine tension between ripe red fruit and an agile mineral precision. The balance here is impeccable and the finish textured and nuanced. Every year Bérêche makes a compelling case for rosé champagne and the 2013 base is an especially delicious example. John McIlwain

Pépière 2012 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Clisson 1.5 L

Beginning in 2005, Marc Ollivier has produced this cuvée from a small parcel of 50 to 110 year-old vines within the Pepiere vineyard. Originally called "Granite de Clisson" after the unique bedrock in the vineyard, Marc has changed the name to "Clisson" to agree with the new INAO Cru Communal classification. The granite is covered with gravel and clay with large stones, ensuring good drainage and deep penetration by the roots into the fissures in the bedrock, bringing the mineral elements indispensable to this wine. The 2012 Clisson, kept on the lees for 24 months, is a gorgeous wine that seems perfectly balanced at 13% alcohol, with very firm acidity, intense aromatics and terrific density on the palate. The wine is a bit closed due to the recent bottling (November 2014) compared with our tasting from vat last February, but still shows sharp floral aromas with white fruits, dried herbs, lemon and stone. Dense pear, apple, citrus, stone, mushroom and anise coat the palate with high viscosity and very firm acids with fabulous length of citrus, white fruits and saline minerals. Beautiful now in its youthful intensity, best at 10 to 20 years of age - bravo, again, to Marc and Rémi!

This is a superb, subtle and very mineral Chardonnay from a replanted parcel at the very top of the Clos, abandoned since 1896, with thin clay soils rich in iron over limestone. A great terroir, never chemically treated and worked in biodynamic farming by Alain and Julien Guillot. The 2014 "les Chassagnes" is a beautiful wine! Yields of 18 hl/ha, giving a racy, stony wine with hints of white fruits, spice and honey, the palate is silky and crystalline - all mineral with subtle citrus and white fruits, very long and elegant. Coudert (Clos de la Roilette) 2016 Fleurie Cuvée Tardive 1.5 L

From eighty year-old vines on clay and granite soil in Alain Coudert's beautiful Clos de la Roliette, just over the border from Moulin-a-Vent. By "Tardive," Alain Coudert implies that one should wait for this wine to mature, in this case probably about 5 to 7 years, although those unable to wait will certainly enjoy drinking it now. The 2016 is cool-toned and finely structured, at 13% it's showing less density than the 2015 and calling to mind the balance and bright minerality of the 2014 vintage. The wine shows deep ruby in the glass, intense aromas of red fruit, violets, fennel, smoke, and black pepper. The palate is creamy and floral on the attack then develops vivid flavors of blueberry and crushed strawberry layered over earthy spice, game, and stone on the grippy mid-palate. The finish is long and mineral and ends on a slightly bitter citrus note. An elegant and age-worthy vintage from Alain. Drinking now, but should develop beautifully with a few years of bottle age.
