The Stéphane Magnien Morey-Saint-Denis "Vieilles Vignes," is from 45 to 65 year-old vines in "Clos Solon" and "Cognés" on clay/limestone soils. The 2017 shows a deep red/black color and is initially less aromatic than the "Grains Fins," then shows dark black cherry and strawberry confit with hints of spice, roast meat and licorice. The palate is dense and sappy with deep strawberry and black cherry fruit, quite dense and long with hints of mint, stone and bitter chocolate, finishing with firm acidity and saline minerals. This offers superb quality for a "village" Morey-Saint-Denis and will repay 3 to 5 yars of cellaring, then drink until 2035. David Lillie
